Women in Nakamals
So, I recently finished working on a $1.4M proposal for a national project to increase the number of women represented in provincial and national councils, and it seems *very* likely that this proposal will be approved by a number of funding agencies. But within some communities, women, socially and culturally, aren’t even allowed to sit inside the traditional meeting rooms called Nakamals. I’ve been assured that they are still “allowed” to voice their concerns, but just makes one wonder if we are trying to jump too many steps and or introducing too foreign a concept in the entire political, social and cultural system.
