Need for Ghettos
A friend’s parents mentioned something about the constant struggle a certain person has to make, to fit into both the workplace and the home. This constant negotiation of realities on a daily basis can be absolutely taxing, especially when the level of extent of difference is as great as it is in this case. Not having a “fixed” reality or not having the “reality” you identify with be that which is shared with the majority of the society can be overwhelming especially for those not too emotionally/psychologically strong. Now I truly understand the need for “ghettos” where a lot of times neighborhoods are, unofficially, divided by race or place of origin. I can also begin to understand the (sometimes) increased rates of crimes in people of color, especially immigrant and refugee communities and the rationalize affirmative action further better.
